Reiki and Animals F.A.Q.

What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) translated from Japanese means spiritual energy.

Reiki symbol translation

Reiki is not a religion; it is a holistic, light-touch, energy-based healing method introduced to Japan by Tendai Buddhist priest, Mikao Usui (Pronounced Mick-cow Ew-suey), during the early 1900's.

How can Reiki Benefit Animals

  1. Accelerates healing for sprains, pulled tendons or ligaments, strained muscles or broken bones

  2. Alleviates lethargy and depression

  3. Balances blood pressure and strengthens immune system

  4. Calms high-strung or overly-sensitive animals

  5. Eases their transition period by promoting peace

  6. Energizes and revitalizes the ill or the aged

  7. Promotes self-healing and  faster healing after surgery

  8. Reduces inflammation due to arthritis, rheumatism or other debilitating conditions

  9. Relieves pain, stress, induces relaxation and promotes balance on all levels

  10. Removes toxins, impurities or energy blockages

How Does Reiki Work on Animals?
The physical body of the animal is sensitive to the energies surrounding them, especially the energies of its owner.  When it experiences a physical or emotional shock or injury, it is also affected at its auric energy level, which may create emotional and physiological blockages that eventually disrupt its health.  On the physical level, imbalance first displays as symptoms and if the symptoms are continuously ignored, then they will eventually manifest into "dis-ease" or illness.

Because animals respond so well to Reiki, the healing energy gently and effectively opens blocked meridians (an energy pathway or channel) and chakras (an energy receptor/transmission center) clearing the energy bodies of blockages, accumulated toxins and lower energy vibrations.

By freeing and re-aligning the animal’s energy system on all levels – emotional, mental, physical and spiritual, deep relaxation is created to help restore their energy balance and vitality.  As symptoms, such as pain or allergies are released, general health is further restored.

Emotional body – Reiki calms, soothes, balances and disperses negative feelings such as fear, abandonment, anger/rage, rejection or despair.
Mental body – Reiki reduces confusion and anxiety by strengthening focus and promoting clarity.
Physical body - When Reiki is applied to aches and pains, it helps repair the underlying dis-ease.
Spiritual body – Reiki allows telepathic connection and communication.

Does an Animal Need to Believe
The answer is simply – no.  Animals demonstrate trust, as well as un-conditional love without scepticism or judgment and because they instinctively use their natural inner senses to guide them, they are usually very cooperative and quite willing to accept the warmth and healing vibration of the practitioner’s hands.  When applying Reiki to animals, we return the loving, healing energy that they readily and naturally give us, plus teach us, instinctively.

What Happens to an Animal During a Reiki Treatment?
Reiki treatment for animals can be given anywhere, anytime, sitting, laying or while holding them.  With focus and intention, universal life-force energy is channelled through the practitioner and the energy automatically flows to the area that requires healing.

A full healing session may take from 30 minutes up to 60 minutes, depending on size.  The animal may instinctively move away when they have had sufficient healing.

The practitioner may intuitively target key areas or move in a particular pattern over the animal’s body.  If it’s impossible to physically touch the animal, then Reiki energy is sent via distant/absentee healing (taught in Reiki Level 2) to its auric level (energy field surrounding its physical body) and the healing energy automatically travels to where it is needed.

Usually the animal will experience total relaxation often falling asleep during treatment and waking up when it has had enough, but the experience is unique to each animal and to each situation.  After a treatment, the animal will be more relaxed and will often want to nap.

Animals establish their own way of showing their gratitude.  Many will promptly lick or rub against you, tail wag or communicate either by sound or telepathically.

As with humans, after a Reiki treatment, it is important to provide the animal with plenty of pure drinking water, further helping to eliminate toxins and impurities from its body, plus to circulate energy throughout its body.
