About Reiki
What is Reiki?
Reiki
(pronounced Ray-key) translated from Japanese means
spiritual energy.

Reiki is not a religion;
it is a holistic, light-touch, energy-based healing method introduced to
Japan by Tendai Buddhist priest, Mikao Usui (Pronounced Mick-cow
Ew-suey), during the early 1900's.
How does Reiki Work?
Your physical body is
sensitive to the energy of thoughts and emotions. When you experience
negative feelings or thoughts about yourself, develop negative thought
patterns and beliefs or experience a physical or emotional shock, you
will be affected at your auric energy level which can create emotional
and physiological blockages that eventually disrupt your health.
Remember, all energy follows thought, therefore, you are
what you "think". Your physical level displays imbalance first as
symptoms, but if the symptoms are continuously ignored, they will
eventually manifest into "dis-ease" or illness.
The energy of Reiki gently
and effectively opens blocked meridians (an energy pathway or channel)
and chakras (an energy receptor/transmission center) clearing the energy
bodies of blockages, accumulated toxins and lower energy (or negative) vibrations. By
freeing and re-aligning your body’s energy system on all levels –emotional,
mental, physical and spiritual, deep relaxation is
created to help restore your energy balance and vitality. As symptoms
such as pain or allergies are released, your general health is further
restored.
At the Emotional body –
Reiki calms, soothes, balances and disperses negative feelings such as
fear, abandonment, anger/rage, rejection or despair.
At the Mental body – Reiki
helps you to focus and promotes clarity. It also reduces memory loss,
confusion, anxiety and obsessive thinking.
At the Physical body -
When Reiki is applied to your aches and pains, it helps repair the
underlying dis-ease, thus promoting "ease" to your body.
At the Spiritual body –
Reiki allows you to connect with your spiritual self or soul, giving you
the ability to discover and understand your immense potential as a
powerful healing energy being.
Reiki is also very
effective when administered to children. It is applied in the same
manner as for adults, but the treatment time is for a shorter duration,
usually 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the size of the child.
Allow your intuition to guide you.
Do You Need to
Believe?
It is not necessary for
you to believe or fully understand how Reiki works. But for it to be
more effective, it helps to remain open minded and to be willing to take
responsibility in altering negative life patterns or issues in order to
create your own healing.
Degrees, Levels and Symbols
Traditionally there are
three degrees or levels of learning and with each Reiki level you receive attunement to
sacred symbols that act as short-cuts to trigger specific functions.
One Source Learning Centre teaches traditional Usui Shiki Ryoho, which
maintains three degrees or levels of learning and employs Reiki five
symbols.
1st degree or Reiki Level 1, is about
self-healing and with attunement you "sense the Reiki energy."
During the attunement ceremony, the Reiki symbols are placed in your
aura (energy field surrounding the physical body), where their energy is
unconsciously dispersed through the hands. After completing this
level, you have the ability to heal yourself or to apply Reiki to others
or to animals on a non-professional basis .
2nd
degree or Reiki Level 2, focuses on becoming a professional Reiki
practitioner, plus performing distant/absentee healing and with
attunement you "call the Reiki energy." As a Reiki practitioner,
you call upon and consciously direct the flow of universal life-force
energy. During the attunement ceremony, you are attuned to three
Reiki symbols. Your heart chakra is opened so you can receive and
experience unconditional universal love and compassion.
3rd
degree or Master/Teacher Level (taught in the traditional
3-level format), focuses on committing yourself to living the
spiritual life of a Reiki Master (to master the healing art of Reiki)
and with attunement you "become the Reiki energy." During the attunement ceremony, you are attuned to two symbols enabling you to pass
attunements to others. The importance for becoming a Reiki Master/Teacher
is not so much about teaching, it’s really about making a commitment, for
life, to understand the healing art of Reiki, plus to make a commitment
to offer a healing practice, to make a commitment to maintain spiritual
discipline and to make a commitment to show un-conditional love, plus
empathy for all living things.
Today, there are dozens
and dozens of Reiki off-shoots adapted from the traditional style, some
which have been trademarked. While many claim to enhance the
healing power of the practitioner, in reality, intention and
focus is what truly generates the amount of universal life-force
energy channelled and generated through the practitioner to the client.
What is a Reiki
Attunement?
The Japanese refer to
this ceremony as Reiju (pronounced ray-joo) and translated, it simply
means "Spiritual Blessing." A Reiki Master/Teacher does not pass
along any special healing powers, but merely provides or creates a safe
place for the student to draw upon universal life-force energy by
connecting to the universal energy source. By receiving attunement or
Reiju at each Reiki level, the student accepts universal blessings,
which supports them on their journey of self-responsibility for their
own spiritual progress.

What Happens During a Reiki Treatment?
Reiki treatment can be given anywhere, anytime,
sitting or laying, while you are fully clothed. A full healing session
takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes, in which the practitioner moves
from head to foot covering both your front and your back areas. The
practitioner may either lightly lay hands on your body or can have them
slightly above your body.
Universal life-force energy is channelled through
the practitioner and the energy automatically flows to the area that
requires healing. You will experience total relaxation and some people
often describe themselves "floating" or "feeling very light" after a
treatment; many relax to the point of falling asleep. Some feel another
presence in the room or feel tingling, heat, pain movement, body
movement, emotional release or "phantom" hands elsewhere on their body.
The experience is unique to each person.
Reiki re-establishes a normal life-force energy
flow of Ki (pronounced key) [Japan] within you to heal your body, emotions, mind and
spirit. In essence, Reiki is the energy of power, light and love. (Note:
life force energy is also known as Chi or Qi (pronounced chee) [China], Huna [Hawaii], Ka
[Egypt] or Prana [India]).

Does an Animal Need
to Believe
The answer is simply –
no. Animals demonstrate trust, as well as un-conditional love
without scepticism or judgment and because they instinctively use their
natural inner senses to guide them, they are usually very cooperative
and quite willing to accept the warmth and healing vibration of the
practitioner’s hands. When applying Reiki to animals, we return the
loving, healing energy that they readily and naturally give us, plus teach
us, instinctively.
How Does Reiki Work on Animals?
The physical body of the
animal is sensitive to the energies surrounding them, especially the
energies of its owner. When it experiences a physical or emotional
shock or injury, it is also affected at its auric energy level, which
may create emotional and physiological blockages that eventually disrupt
its health. On the physical level, imbalance first displays as symptoms
and if the symptoms are continuously ignored, then they will eventually
manifest into "dis-ease" or illness.
Because animals respond so
well to Reiki, the healing energy gently and effectively opens blocked
meridians (an energy pathway or channel) and chakras (an energy
receptor/transmission center) clearing the energy bodies of blockages,
accumulated toxins and lower energy vibrations.
By freeing and
re-aligning the animal’s energy system on all levels – emotional,
mental, physical and spiritual, deep relaxation is created to help
restore their energy balance and vitality. As symptoms, such as pain or
allergies are released, general health is further restored.
Emotional body –
Reiki calms, soothes, balances and disperses negative feelings such as
fear, abandonment, anger/rage, rejection or despair.
Mental body – Reiki
reduces confusion and anxiety by strengthening focus and promoting
clarity.
Physical body -
When Reiki is applied to aches and pains, it helps repair the underlying dis-ease.
Spiritual body –
Reiki allows telepathic connection and communication.
What Happens to an
Animal During a Reiki Treatment?
Reiki treatment for
animals can be given anywhere, anytime, sitting, laying or while holding
them. With focus and intention, universal life-force energy is channelled through the practitioner and the energy automatically flows
to the area that requires healing.
A full healing session may
take from 30 minutes up to 60 minutes, depending on size. The animal
may instinctively move away when they have had sufficient healing.
The practitioner may
intuitively target key areas or move in a particular pattern over the
animal’s body. If it’s impossible to physically touch the animal, then
Reiki energy is sent via distant/absentee healing (taught in Reiki Level
2) to its auric level
(energy field surrounding its physical body) and
the healing energy automatically travels to where it is needed.
Usually the animal will
experience total relaxation often falling asleep during treatment and
waking up when it has had enough, but the experience is unique to each
animal and to each situation. After a treatment, the animal will be
more relaxed and will often want to nap.
Animals establish their
own way of showing their gratitude. Many will promptly lick or rub
against you, tail wag or communicate either by sound or telepathically.
As with humans, after a
Reiki treatment, it is important to provide the animal with plenty of
pure drinking water, further helping to eliminate toxins and impurities
from its body, plus to circulate energy throughout its body.
