Spiritual/Inspirational Poetry
Autumn Leaves
The brightly coloured autumn leaves are strewn all around,
as blustering winds and splattering rains topple them to the ground.
Every day you may scrape for hours raking them into bags,
only to find overnight Mother Nature played a gag.
Once again they coat the grass and cover the sidewalk too,
shaking your head in disbelief you cry, “Now what shall I do?”
Undaunted by the hand of fate playing games just for fun,
be thankful for the clear blue sky and the warmth from the sun.
For now you have another chance to scrape and bag some more,
the pile is growing ever so large, at least twelve bags for sure.
The trees are now half empty, but the rains are on their way,
tommorrow you can rake again completing another day.
Resist the urge to complain about the autumn leaves,
they work so hard to clean the air so it’s pure for you to breathe.
And now it’s time to let them rest to fertilize the ground,
new leaves will form in spring next year to start another round.
The autumn leaves smell so fresh; quite pungent, but it’s sweet,
reminding you of fun filled days, fond memories you can keep.
Their gift to you is priceless, for they can set you free,
so fill your heart when you look up to see them in the trees.
Appreciate their beauty, their silence and their peace,
the autumn leaves bring sheer joy that never seems to cease.
They’re here to teach you lessons and will help to keep you calm,
because the rhythm from your raking is a soothing balm.
